Only on 2: Security Behind Nevada's Medical Marijuana Business

You know what's always high at a medical marijuana dispensary? Security!

"We have hundreds of regulations we have to adhere to," says Kris Krane of 4Front Ventures. His consulting company travels the country setting up operations like Kanna in Sun Valley.

"I'd say Nevada's regulations are tighter than most states. But that's a good thing. We like working in safe environments and here they don't leave anything to chance. They want to see cameras and DVRs and lock systems and security guards. And not only does that all make our patients safe we believe it makes the entire neighborhood safer."

Kanna has meant a $4-million investment so far. Within weeks they'll have the shelves stocked and be open for business. They say they are using product from Silver State Trading in Sparks, but will be adding in their own strains with their own grow facility by summer.

"People use marijuana for everything from pain management to cancer treatment to glaucoma to insomnia. And the different strains help different symptoms and to be successful you really need to have a large variety on hand," Krane says.

Kanna will go through its final inspections later this week and expects to open for business in early February.
