Do you still have candy stashed in the house? If you want to scrap the sugar, there is a place to drop it off for a good cause and a good workout. Both Orangetheory Fitness studios in Reno will be collecting extra candy this week. The goodies will be shipped to "Operation Gratitude” which puts together care packages for U.S. service members deployed overseas.
Along with getting candy out of the house, this is a sweet way for kids to give thanks, too. They are invited to include thank you cards for our troops. "I think for children to learn that it is not all about taking, but also about giving and also making healthy lifestyle choices,” expressed Alexis Riggs who owns both Reno studios. She says Orangetheory Fitness strives to be part of the community and this is a great way to do it, especially since many of its members have family and friends in the military. Southeast Reno Studio Manager, Holly Pan adds that anyone can drop off their extra candy. "We've had members drop off, we've had non-members drop off candy here, and it's just been a really great success."
Folks have already donated an estimated 100 pounds of sweets! This donation effort is for members and non-members alike. If you would like to use this opportunity to check out Orangetheory Fitness, you can call ahead to reserve a spot for your first class – which is free. It is heart-rate based training that aims to get you into your fat burning zones with cardio conditioning and strength training.
