Organizations In Need of Coats for Winter |

From green ones to red and black, local organizations continue to collect coats for winter.

"We wanted to make it very easy for the community. Easy for employees and so far that's worked really well," said Katie Nannini of NV Energy.

This is the first year for NV Energy to pair up with Good Shepherd's Clothes Closet in Reno.

"What's been really great is the people who have come through have definitely brought more than one. Most people brought five to ten," added Nannini.

Adding up to over one hundred coats in one day. Not bad for a first time fundraiser. Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and St. Vincent's Programs accepts winter items year round.

"We do have some coats this year, but we could always use more," said Schiller.

Most of the coats they have now have been sitting in boxes since spring or summer.

"So it's sort of flip flopped the way it would be better for our clients. People are cleaning out their closets to get ready for the summer months so that's when we're getting all the warm clothes, and it's when we need them the least," said Schiller.

Mens coats are few and far between. Womens clothing is usually donated more often.

"It's also really important to donate mens clothes as well," said Nannini.

"Men tend to donate less because they use their items more or longer," added Schiller.

But when it comes down to it, every donation is a great one.

"We'll take what we can get. We're always happy with donations we receive and we're thankful to the community for what they do for us," said Schiller.

Catholic Charities and St. Vincent's Programs has a couple different thrift stores and several different drop off sites in Reno. Here's a list below.
