Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump have discussed arms control and the coronavirus pandemic on the phone.
The Kremlin said the two leaders “thoroughly considered” various arms control issues “given the special responsibility of Russia and the U.S. for maintaining international peace and security.”
According to the White House, Trump reiterated his hope of avoiding an expensive three-way arms race between China, Russia, and the United States.
The Kremlin’s readout of Thursday's call said Trump and Putin reaffirmed “the timeliness of bilateral consultations” on the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, which expires next year.
They also talked about Russia and the United States cooperating on the coronavirus, according to the Kremlin.
