Reno Police Arrest Teenage Boy After Shooting at Pat Baker Park

Officers with the Reno Police Department say they have arrested a suspect in connection with Tuesday's shooting at Pat Baker Park.

The suspect has been identified as a 15-year-old boy and is being held at the Jan Evans Juvenile Detention Center. He has been charged with attempted homicide and robbery with a deadly weapon.

Through interviews and witness reports detectives say they learned that a fight between the victim and the suspect started after the victim was robbed at gunpoint. After being robbed, the victim reportedly chased the defendant who ultimately shot the victim in the head.

The victim was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

The investigation began Tuesday afternoon when the Reno Police Department responded to the shooting just after 2:45 p.m. near Montello Street and Oddie Blvd.

"There was some type of altercation around the park. We don't know if it happened in the park or around the park. As they were driving off the suspect was out on the street, down the street here. Looks like shot a few rounds into the car, missed the passenger, and struck the driver in the head," says Reno Lt. William Rulla.

Detectives from the Robbery and Homicide Unit and from the Regional Gang Unit followed several leads from the shooting. They say a person of interest was located near 2300 block of Wedekind Road around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday and was held for questioning overnight, and eventually arrested.
