It's a unique event that's coming back to Reno for the third year. The Reno Punk Rock Flea Market returns to the Generator in Sparks February 8th and 9th, 2020. It will feature 16 bands over two days - but there's a lot more to the event.
"There is something for everyone at the Punk Rock Flea Market," said Music Director Kimberly Cook. "It's a family-friendly event, it's all ages and it goes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. so it's prime time for families to come out. Mom and Dad can have a beer and go shopping while the kids skate and smash cars. It's not just punk rock fans that we're catering to this year."
The car smash has been a popular draw in the past.
"We have a car smash pyramid so you can pay a dollar per swing and we'll just let you annihilate a couple of cars," Cook said.
More than a hundred local artists will be showing their work at the event. Proceeds will help low-income artists at the Generator - a community art space where hundreds of artists create.
"The Generator gives people an opportunity to work with tools in a space they wouldn't normally get to work with." Cook said. "They have a metal shop and a wood shop. There is a textiles lab, a computer lab, 3D printers, laser cutters. Large, expensive equipment most people would never get their hands on and they can do it at the Generator."
It's an event that gets bigger every year and the hope is to continue to grow membership, and an interest in, this unique space.
"Come out," Cook said. "This is an event for everybody. We really want to attract people that have never been to the Generator before so we can give them a sneak peek behind the scenes of what we do. We want to make this the best experience for everyone in the community and we're looking forward to seeing everybody."
