For many seniors in town, necessities aren’t the only concerns. For many, fellowship and getting out of isolation are on top of the list as well.
The good news is there are resources for those who are looking for all those things. With a growing number of seniors here in Reno, local agencies try their best to make sure they have the support they need. Washoe County Senior Services at 9th Street is one of them.
“There are so many services here to seniors, I never knew they had everything right here in one spot, and it was available to people,” says Virginia McClure-Wade.
Another update from Senior Services includes a program called TADS or Temporary Assistance for Displaced Seniors, will add four more spots to the program within the next month.
“We connect them to various resources, services in the community, a program that helps them find a job or housing that would be permanent for them,” said Chris Ciarlo with Washoe County Human Services Agency.
The program offers housing and food to seniors in need for a month, helping them get back on their feet.
The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has passed an amendment authorizing the development of senior facilities in areas that were not authorized before in Spanish Springs.
