The Sands Regency Casino Hotel in Reno unveiled their new buffet on Thursday. It’s part of more than $50 million in renovations for the property. The renovations for the buffet are just a small part of what Jacobs Entertainment has planned for the property.

“It's been more than a decade. Since the last renovation to the property,” said Jacobs Entertainment CEO John East. The changes to the buffet go far beyond just the expanded menu items. “We created a contemporary Tahoe Sierra look. You see that in the floors, lattices, and the finishes we have. You also see it in the buffet line and kitchen,” said East.

The casino floor is also seeing some changes, on top of new flooring and paint. “From the time we took over the property in July we have converted or added new approximately 80 percent of the machines,” said East.

In the next three weeks, more than $35 million in renovations will start. Two hundred of the rooms in the first tower are expected to be finished by the end of the year. Other rooms will be upgraded in coming years. Changes including a new full sized refrigerator, microwave, glass shower and marble sink. “We've got changes being made to the west tower. We have other food outlets planned. We’ve also got some renovations planned when it comes to convention space,” said East.

A new marketing plan has also been rolled out. “Sands smiles is a great way to express to our customers that this is something you can expect when you come in. It is a friendly face,” said East. People are already reacting to the changes that have already been done, including the renovated buffet.

“It’s a really nice improvement. Everything looks nice,” said customer Robert Saenz. “It’s very comfortable. Yes nice,” said customer Pax Gallagher.

Third Street behind the Sands Regency will be closed until spring of next year, as crews work on renovating the hotel's loading dock.
