The Storey County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a text message scam going around.

The United State District Court of Nevada is warning the community of a phone and email scam they have noticed. 

The police department says two people have received telephone calls stating that warrants for their arrest will be issued if they don't pay certain fines or dues.

The sheriff's office says scammers are making phone calls claiming to be one of their employees and requesting payment for an open warrant. 

In at least one instance, the caller stated they would be willing to negotiate the amount or conditions of the warrants.

In the calls and emails, recipients may be pressured to provide confidential data, potentially leading to identity theft and fraud.
