(AP) - A site for a proposed 65,000-seat stadium in Las Vegas is in question, and funding formulas are still being worked out for a project that could cost up to $1.6 billion with about half paid for by hotel room tax money.
But tourism officials and Las Vegas Strip business leaders were enthusiastic Thursday about a proposal backed by billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson's company to build a domed stadium to lure the NFL Oakland Raiders to town.
Las Vegas Sands executive Robert Goldstein says time is short, and if a UNLV campus site is too close to McCarran International Airport, officials will need to quickly find another 40 acres.
Officials say football league owners and the Raiders need to know by January if the stadium project is a go.
