The Mono County Sheriff's Office says crews responded to a fatal skiing accident on Mammoth Mountain on Saturday, June 22 around 8:30 a.m.

They said several witnesses reported seeing a skier lose control near the top of Wipeout Chutes near Chair 23.

Mono County Sheriff's Office says Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol was on scene within a few minutes and found an unconscious man in full cardiac arrest at the bottom of Wipeout Chutes.

They said CPR and advanced life support were given to him immediately and he was taken to the care of Mono County Paramedics. Life-saving efforts continued on their way to Mammoth Hospital, but despite the efforts of the patrollers and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The man was identified as 25-year-old John Picard of Boston, Massachusetts. Mono County Sheriff's Office says next of kin have been notified.
