Sparks Teenager Hospitalized After Vehicle Crash

Sparks Police say a 16-year-old skateboarder was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after being run over by a vehicle on Telehurst Drive.

Police say the boy was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries to his head an pelvis.

The driver, the victim's friend, remained on scene and relayed what occurred to police. Officers say they learned the 17-year-old was the driver of a Toyota truck as his 16-year-old friend held onto the truck while on his skateboard. Based upon information collected on scene, authorities say it's believed the victim lost his footing on the skateboard and fell onto the roadway, where he was then run over. Authorities say the victim was not wearing any protective gear at the time of the incident.

The driver was later released to his parents.

Police are still investigating the crash, with assistance of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team. Sparks Police say they are interested in talking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
