The Nevada Wolf Pack announced the passing of Hall of Famer Val York on Thursday.
He was 81 years old.
York was a four-year basketball letterman and a three-year baseball letterman for the Wolf Pack between 1958 and 1961.
He was a Fallon native and attended Churchill County High School. At the University of Nevada, Reno, he earned All-Far Western Conference honors in basketball twice and was the baseball team's leading hitter during the 1961 season. He received the Doc Martie Award in 1961 as the outstanding male senior student-athlete.
After graduating from college in 1961, York served 20 years in the US Army. He toured in Vietnam twice and was highly decorated for his service.
York was inducted into the Churchill County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. He was inducted into Nevada's Hall of Fame for both basketball and baseball in 1989.
He passed away in Bozeman, Montana.
