From Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada & The St. Vincent's Programs:
In preparation for our collaborative “Project Homeless Connect” event coming up in late January, we are asking the community for donations of warm gloves, beanies, scarves, coats, new socks and underwear, sunscreen, first aid items, sleeping bags, travel-sized toiletry items (razors, shampoo, soap, combs, oral hygiene items, etc.), and non-perishable food and snacks. We are also looking for individuals and groups who would like to volunteer at the event.
Our agency, in partnership with about 75 other local nonprofit organizations that work with the homeless population, will distribute the donated items at the annual “Project Homeless Connect” event coming up on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 from 7:00 a.m. to noon at the Reno Events Center on 4th and Center Streets in Downtown Reno. The event is part of a community-wide plan to help connect homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless with a one-stop shop for services, such as: medical, dental and vision care, disability services, haircuts, job resources, pet care, housing assistance, and much more. An estimated 1,000 homeless men, women and children will be welcomed and connected to service providers at the event. This is the eighth annual year of the “Project Homeless Connect” event in Reno, and it has become an effective, organized effort to coordinate services and connect with people living in poverty.
Donations can be dropped off between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day at our St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop at 500 East 4th Street in downtown Reno or at St. Vincent’s Super Thrift at 190 E. Glendale Avenue in Sparks. Upon drop off, please specify that the donated items are for “Project Homeless Connect.” The donation deadline is Friday, January 22nd.
