For the first time, women have an officially recognized soccer league in Sudan.
But their league has become a field of contention as Sudan grapples with the transition from three decades of authoritarian rule that espoused a strict interpretation of Islamic Shariah law.
Some Muslim ultraconservatives have denounced women playing the sport as immodest and a violation of religion, destroying Sudan's identity.
Supporters say it is part of a larger fight for change and ending the vestiges of the old regime.
The women say they just want to play soccer _ and their games are gaining fans.
