Suspect Arrested After Car Chase Ends in Fernley

Sunday evening 34-year-old Joseph Patrick Williams led Lyon County Sheriff's Deputies on a car chase through Fernley, I-80, Highway 447, and onto Pyramid Lake Tribal Lands before being stopped and arrested. 

It began Sunday at approximately 4:40 p.m. on the 300-block of Sandia Drive in Fernley when a Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle for suspicion of a DUI. The suspect fled the scene and police followed in pursuit for nearly an hour. During the pursuit two law enforcement vehicles were damaged when the suspect intentionally rammed into their cars. Additionally, the suspect hit numerous parked cars and electric boxes as well as caused several nearby accidents that are still under investigation. 

Lyon County says that there was a report of a weapon discharged by a citizen during the pursuit, which is under investigation. 

Currently, no one has been reported injured as a result of the pursuit. 

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Soaring and Wildwood Drive in Fernley. 

Williams was arrested and has been charged with DUI, assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, battery on a police officer with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, felony eluding, and numerous hit and run charges. Bail has not yet been set.
