Taxi Cab Parade Honors Driver Killed Sunday Night

On Wednesday, local taxi drivers held a procession to honor a colleague who was shot in Midtown over the weekend.

Around 50 cabs from all the local companies came out -- Reno-Sparks Cab, Capitol Cab Company, and of course, Whittlesea, where 55-year old shooting victim, Sami Amin worked.

"We're all one family that's pretty much, regardless of what company you work for," said Gary Myers, Reno-Sparks Cab Manager. "Drivers come from one company to go to another. Sami worked for us at one time. So, we felt a responsibility to try to get as many people together if we could, and it was a pretty easy task."

A parade of cabs started at Oddie Boulevard in Sparks and drove about five miles to the Mountain View Cemetery.

Police say back on Sunday, Amin was shot in his cab on the 900 block of Wheeler Avenue and later died at Renown Regional Medical Center. Police are still looking for a suspect, but they're trying to find leads.

Drivers who knew Amin say he was a great man who loved his family very much, and they're still mourning his death.

"I didn't go to work that day," said Rich Jolly, a driver with Reno-Sparks Cab. "I didn't go to work that day. It was a real big shock, and it scared my family. My wife didn't want me to go that day, and knowing that these guys are out on the loose, it puts all of us in fear."
