Local Residents Start Preparing Homes for Cooler Temperatures

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Carson City District says they are continuing to sell firewood cutting permits at multiple locations.

Pinyon Pine and Utah Juniper permits are $10 a cord and only dead trees, standing or down, may be cut.

Permits are valid for 90 days from the date of purchase

Permits are for no more than five cords of wood can be purchased at one time and there's an annual limit of ten cords.

A commercial firewood permit is required for people who want more than ten cords.

Maps of authorized cutting areas are provided with the purchase of a permit.

During dry weather, the BLM wants to remind wood cutters to bring a fire extinguisher, shovel and bucket of water handy. Chainsaws must also be equipped with spark arrestors.

A list of locations can be found below. All locations accept cash or check and the BLM in Carson City will process any credit card orders in person or over the phone.
