The Reno-Tahoe International Airport broke ground on its new Ground Transportation Center on Wednesday, marking another milestone in its multi-year modernization plan.

The facility will consolidate all ground transportation services, including rental cars, ride shares, taxis, and shuttles, into one central location. Airport officials say the project will improve traveler convenience and streamline access to and from the airport.

Opening is scheduled for 2028.

The $299 million public-private partnership between the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and Conrac Solutions, a Meridiam-owned company, is part of the airport’s MoreRNO Infrastructure Program, designed to expand capacity and enhance the passenger experience for decades.

According to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, the new center represents “another major milestone under the airport’s MoreRNO Infrastructure Program, designed to meet the needs of a growing region and improve the travel experience for passengers for decades to come.”

The project is one of several underway at Reno-Tahoe International Airport as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements.

ORIGINAL STORY - FEBRUARY 25, 2025:

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is introducing new plans to improve the airport. So far, the airport tells us it has completed its ticketing hall expansion and loop road improvements, but there are several projects still in the works.

Starting in January of next year, construction will begin to replace concourses A and B.

Daren Griffin, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, says, "The hold rooms that we use are way too small. It's a difficult experience with full airplanes every time we fly, and so we need a full replacement of both concourses, which opened in 1980."

The concourses are expected to be done in 2029.

Starting later this summer, construction is set to begin on the Police and Airport Authority Headquarters. The group says this will allow them to move out of the terminal building, freeing more space for businesses inside - as well as creating a visible police presence for better public safety and security. That project is expected to be done in 2027.

And as we've been following, travelers may notice current construction for the ground transportation center.

Griffin says, "We will tear down a lot of the buildings next to the airport, and we will build a large garage and—really—the rental car center that people deserve and need. So that it's easy to find where you're going, to get that car quickly and easily, and go explore northern Nevada."

The ground transportation center is expected to be done in 2028.

The Airport Authority doesn't expect much impact to traveler experiences with these projects, unlike the ticket expansion and the loop road.
