If you drive through Pyramid Way, you've already encountered construction, and this weekend, you can also expect to see closures.
NDOT tells us that the southbound part of Pyramid Way will be closed for two weekends.
Both times, it will begin Friday morning and will go until Monday morning. Detours will be put in place to allow people to pass through the crossroads
Shaun Wang, a Resident Engineer for NDOT, said, "The closure this weekend will be between Oddie Boulevard and McCarran. The closures will start on Friday at 10 a.m. to Monday at 6 a.m.”
This project is working to resurface both directions of Pyramid Way between Nugget Avenue and York Way.
Over a mile of roadside curbs, driveways, and sidewalk ramps will be redone for enhancements to pedestrian safety and mobility.
Wang also said, “The last time this road was paved was in 2010, and currently we're going to be resurfacing the road to make sure a smoother road for the traveling public. We're also going to improve the safety components of the road, as well as provide ADA access for the public."
Roughly 28,000 drivers travel through there daily, and will soon enjoy the finished $14 million improvement.
Wang told us, "We're aiming to complete the sidewalk and paving portion of this project in summer 2027."
With the growth of the city, NDOT states each improvement project is led by the thought of what people need.
That’s why they will be adding many pedestrian crosswalk signals and enhancing the roadside lighting.
Wang said, "It is always the department's goal to make sure that we are following up with the demand of the public to ensure that we're building roads for what people's needs are."
They’re encouraging people to drive with extra caution and give themselves more driving time to get through the detours without feeling rushed.
This will help ensure safe driving for both the workers and those behind the wheel.
Wang told us, "I'm hoping the public can be respectful to the work zone and ensure not to speed when you're in the work zone, and pay attention to the detour signs so that our workers can go home safely."
The northbound part of Pyramid Way will be worked on shortly after, but it is planned to be just a single-lane closure.
