the Center for Model Schools has designated Glenn Duncan Elementary School in Reno as a Model School for 2025 --citing the schools' commitment to student success and innovation.

The Glenn Duncan team has demonstrated exceptional dedication this school year by prioritizing efforts to improve student attendance, recognizing its strong connection to academic achievement, a sense of belonging, and overall student success. The academic team proactively addresses individual student needs at weekly attendance intervention meetings. Initiatives such as “Must Be Present to Win” days, which reward consistent attendance, and school-wide competitions designed to build community reflect a comprehensive and strategic approach to building and nurturing a positive school culture where students are eager to learn.

Members of the school staff at Duncan Elementary School will attend a conference later this year in Washington, D.C., where they will engage with more than 5,000 other educators to share insights into the results achieved at their school following the implementation of strategies designed to improve attendance and engagement among students and families. Their presentation is entitled Must be Present to Win: Strategies for Turning Around Chronic Absenteeism in Schools.

The Center for Model Schools works to empower educational leaders to drive meaningful, sustainable improvement in their schools and districts. Through a research-backed, evidence-based approach, staff members work with school staff members from across the country to provide strategic guidance, coaching, and support to help leaders build high-performing teams and foster a culture where teachers, students, and communities thrive.
