The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says they responded to an incident that ended in an officer-involved shooting in the 3000 block of Second Street in Silver Springs on Monday. It came after calls for a physical domestic battery.
"There were two 911 calls that came in. Upon arrival of the residence, things escalated rather quickly and shots were fired inside the residence," Lt. Jerry Pattison, Lyon County Sheriff's Office said. "One deputy was injured and the individual who had attacked the cops was pronounced dead on-scene."
Pattison says deputies arrived at the house at 6:48Â PMÂ and the shooting happened shortly afterward. He says the injured deputy went to Carson-Tahoe Medical Center for bumps and bruises. Nobody else was seriously injured, including the suspect's wife and kids. He says they were treated outside of the house.
"We're happy that the officers came through relatively unscathed but unfortunately it's very unsettling when anybody loses their life in any capacity," Pattison said.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said the Nevada Division of Investigation and the Washoe County forensics team are taking over the investigation.
Pattison says officers respond to a lot of domestic violence calls, which can be very unpredictable and volatile. Most do not end in violence though.
"You're lulled into a sense of false security and then you end up on one when you think it's going to be just a typical domestic violence call and you're going to be in and out in a short period of time and it goes in the wrong direction like it did last night," Pattison said.
Lyon County Sheriff's Office says there are no other details available at this time and all names of those involved are being withheld since the investigation is ongoing.
