Las Vegas is marking the third anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
“Three years ago today, a heinous act of violence rained down on our city, our county and our state,” Governor Sisolak told a modest gathering at a Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony at an open-air amphitheater at the Clark County Government Center.
“Victim families will forever be in our hearts from 1 October,” he said, “and we will never, never forget what happened that day or the lives that were lost and the lives that were changed.”
Senator Rosen also said in a statement “In the 3 years since the shooting, 2 more victims have passed away due to injuries they sustained that night. One in 2019 and one earlier this year bringing the number of lives lost up to 60.”
The names of the original 58 dead are slated to be read at a nighttime memorial at the time the shooting started.
President Donald Trump’s press secretary marked the date by saying the victims and their families were in their prayers today.
Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden issued a statement describing the shooting “an act of pure malice" and calling the state “resilient.”
