On Wednesday, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto held a press conference alongside leaders of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus.
She was joined by Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).
The purpose of the press conference was to urge the Biden Administration to take swift action to protect Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients before the end of the president's term.
"They (The Biden Administration) have the ability, under the law and the legal authority that they have, to extend some protections to individuals in this country legally through TPS status, or to actually process the applications much quicker for dreamers for DACA status before they leave office," said (D-Nev) Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
During a recent appearance on Meet the Press, President-Elect Trump emphasized that his promise to deport millions of individuals was serious and not just campaign rhetoric.
However, he indicated that he would be open to negotiating with Democrats regarding immigrants who arrived in the United States at a young age, commonly referred to as DACA recipients or "dreamers."
"Republicans are very open to the dreamers. The dreamers we were talking about many years ago were brought into this country many years ago. Some of them are no longer young people; in many cases, they have become successful. They have great jobs," said President-Elect Donald Trump on Sunday's Meet the Press.
Although Senator Cortez Masto expresses openness to collaborate with Trump, she remains skeptical based on her past experiences during his first term.
"In 2018, when he was President, and I was a senator, he said the same thing: bring me a bipartisan piece of legislation for our dreamers, and I'll sign it. We worked here in the Senate, we accomplished bipartisan legislation, and for our dreamers, it included border wall money. It was a tough vote for many of us, but we did it. And did he sign it? - no, he killed it," said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
