Former Nevada standout Jarod Lucas is returning to the Wolf Pack, this time as an assistant coach.
The university announced his addition to the men’s basketball coaching staff Wednesday, bringing back one of the program’s most decorated recent players.
Lucas was a driving force in Nevada’s back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2023 and 2024. During his two seasons with the Wolf Pack, he led the team in scoring each year and earned All-Mountain West honors. Known for his late-game shot making and leadership, Lucas served as team captain while ranking among conference leaders in three-pointers and free-throw percentage.
"What an incredible day for our program! We’re thrilled to welcome back one of our best players, Jarod, to our coaching staff. His passion for Reno and the university is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll have on our players every day!” said head coach Steve Alford.
Lucas said he's eager to contribute in a new role.
"I'm grateful to be back in Reno," he said. "Nevada shaped me on and off the court. I'm excited to help our guys grow and to do my part for this roster and this community."
His hire comes as assistant coach Kyle Guy departs the program to pursue a professional playing opportunity.
“We are grateful for all of Kyle's efforts this summer in helping our program. The staff and players are very excited for Kyle and his opportunity with the Indiana Pacers organization,” Alford said.
Lucas joins the staff with a deep knowledge of the program and a strong reputation for his work ethic, poise, and ability to connect with players. His return is seen as a major win for the Wolf Pack as they look to build on their recent success.
