Nevada Drops to #17 in AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll

The University of Nevada men’s basketball team is picked to finish fourth in the Mountain West preseason media poll. The Wolf Pack has won the last three MW regular season titles. In 2017 and 2018 the Pack won outright titles while the 2019 title was shared.

Utah State, who tied with Nevada last season, is picked to finish first receiving all 17 first place votes and totaled 187 points. San Diego State was second with 150 points followed by New Mexico with 141. Nevada earned 135 points to take the fourth spot.  Boise State, Fresno State, UNLV, Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming and San José State round out the poll for the 11 team league.

Pack redshirt freshman K.J. Hymes was selected as the preseason Freshman of the Year. Hymes played at Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix where he averaged 12.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks his senior year. He was a second-team All-4A conference selection as a prep junior when he averaged 17 points and eight rebounds playing for St. Mary’s High School.  ESPN, Scout and Rivals ranked him a three-star recruit.
