A Florida boy helped honor the El Dorado County Deputy killed in the line of duty earlier this week.
11-year-old Zechariah carried a blue line flag as he ran a mile at the track behind his school – in the pouring rain.
The run pays tribute to Deputy Brian Ishmael and helps raise money for injured first responders.
Zechariah founded the non-profit Running 4 Heroes.
“Deputy Ishmael was an amazing person who sacrificed his life every day. I’ll never forget what happened on October 23rd.”
As we’ve reported, Deputy Ishmael was shot and killed after responding to a 911 call in Somerset. Another deputy, who was on a ride with Deputy Ishmael, was also injured.
Three men have been arrested in connection to the shooting.
The ‘Tunnel of Towers’ Foundation also announced it will pay for the mortgage for the fallen deputy’s home. He left behind a wife and three children.
Running 4 HeroesORIGINAL STORY:
Police say three men have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Northern California sheriff's deputy who was killed while responding to a falsely reported theft from an illegal marijuana growing operation in the rural Sierra Nevada foothills.
Authorities say El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Ishmael was killed Wednesday in the community of Somerset. An off-duty sheriff's deputy from San Joaquin County was doing a ride-along with Ishmael and was also shot.
El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini says the 911 caller did not mention that he had a business arrangement with the men who were in the marijuana garden.
The gunman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and another man is charged with being an accessory. The 911 caller has been charged with manslaughter.
Deputy Ishmael was a four-year veteran of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and previously worked for Placerville Police Department.
The City of South Lake Tahoe has lowered flags to half-staff to honor Deputy Ishmael. All City flags are lowered to half-staff now through Monday, October 28 in honor of his dedicated service to the citizens of El Dorado County.
A memorial fund is set up in his name.
