Anniversary of Teen's Rescue Commemorated at Lake Tahoe

The family of a Texas man, along with first responders gathered Thursday to remember his rescue from Lake Tahoe one year ago.

Jake Blackmon, his family, bystanders and first responders who helped save his life dedicated a bench to commemorate the anniversary of his rescue from Lake Tahoe.

Exactly one year ago, he slipped under the water at Sand Harbor and was more than 20 feet below the surface when an ER nurse who happened to be paddle boarding nearby dragged him to the surface and others rushed him to the shore.

Jake says the accident puts his life in perspective when he has a bad day. "Normally that would kinda get me down and I'd beat myself up about it now I just remind myself I'm not supposed to be going through this right now, I'm not supposed to be here, so it's ok, it's all good."

Blackmon says he doesn’t have any memory of the accident.
