Someone 2 Know: Thankful for Blood Donors

You can help save a life by donating blood at the second Annual Nate Strong Blood Drive in Reno Tuesday afternoon.

The blood drive is located at the Our Lady of the Snows School at 1125 Lander Street in Reno from 12pm to 7pm.

United Blood Services, Reno will be partnering with the Sierra Nevada Donor Awareness and Donor Network West to give blood donors a chance to become organ donors. The second Annual Nate Strong Blood Drive will be held in honor of Kerry Kozlowski who is currently awaiting a kidney transplant.

“We want community members to be aware of the constant need for blood. There is no substitution for human blood and it can only come from blood donors,” said Alma Cartagena Donor Recruitment Representative.

April is Donor Appreciation Month. All presenting donors will earn double points via UBS’ Hero Rewards Program and will receive a free mini health check.

“Every two seconds someone in the U.S. will need a life-saving transfusion. Blood has a shelf life of 42 days, however most units leave our shelves within one week of its arrival,” said Alma Cartagena Donor Recruitment Representative.

Make your convenient appointment to give blood at www.bloodhero.com or by calling 775-329-6451. Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate. It’s at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
