UPDATE: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office says they've identified a woman who was found dead in a burned tent on December 9.
Officials said 31-year-old Amber Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her exact cause and manner of death are pending the investigation.
Officials said Shaw was believed to be homeless.
Original Story: The Reno Police Department is investigating an unidentified body that was found early Monday morning inside a burned tent on North Edison Way off of Mill Street in Reno.
The fire was first reported after 8:15 a.m. in a homeless encampment by the river.Â
The cause of death and fire remains under investigation. But officials say they may have just been trying to stay warm.
"We need to keep warm obviously. With the homeless population and the transient population, we do see more fires in tents, around tents, and in vacant structures," says Fire Marshal Tray Palmer.
Reno Police and Reno Fire are both investigating the incident.
