Officials from the University of Nevada say a Carson Valley Middle School student from Gardnerville won first place in the 2020 Nevada Radon Poster Contest.

They said Ayden Strange won with his poster, "The Invisible Reaper."

Officials said the University of Nevada, Reno Extension's Radon Education Program holds the contest each year to educate people on the dangers of radon in the home.

They want to encourage people to get their homes tested, since radon is a radioactive, colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that comes from the ground. Officials said it can accumulate in houses and increases the risk of developing lung cancer.

Strange will receive a $75 gift card of his choice and his teacher, Jennifer Celio, will receive a $50 gift card for classroom supplies.
