CHP Truckee says westbound I-80 at Castle Peak remains closed, as they investigate a fatal accident. The road is closed at Donner Lake Road and traffic is being diverted to Donner Pass Road.
CHP says the driver of a pickup is the only fatality, and no one else was hurt, although there were some CalTrans workers nearby, within the same construction work zone when the crash happened, just after 2:15 p.m. Thursday.
None of the workers were hurt.
As of right now, troopers say they don’t know immediately what caused the accident, but do say the man was speeding, and hit at least one CalTrans vehicle.
CHP says it expects to reopen that section of I-80 very early Friday morning.
