Valentine's Day is Friday - do you have something for your sweetheart? Once again, the Peppermill in Reno is catering to last-minute shoppers with their "Cocoa for a Cause" fundraiser. The resort sells boxes of truffles the day before Valentine's Day and all proceeds benefit nearby Anderson Elementary School.
"They are a Title 1 school; they have a good majority of their students on free or reduced lunch," said Katie Silva, Director of Communications for the Peppermill Reno. "It's something we feel is a responsibility for us having them so close - and working so closely with them - that we do partner with them for our charity events."
The sale has been popular with last-minute shoppers in the past.
"I don't want to call anyone out, but if you are a last-minute Valentine's Day shopper, this is so great," Silva said. "They're artisanal chocolates, $10 for a whole box and you can get it for a loved one, your family, yourself - we're not judging - we just want everyone to come down. You can get in and out, it's in our hotel lobby, and just be on your way for the day while you're giving back to a great cause."
The resort has partnered with that school for years and the benefits go both ways.
"We have a very good partnership with their principal," Silva said. "We have kids that come over and do tours, we have them going through our geothermal plant, so it's not only this partnership where we're giving back to them, they're actually giving back to us and bringing their students and helping them learn. It works both ways."
The chocolates will be on sale for $10 a box in the Peppermill Hotel lobby from 10a.m.- 6p.m. on Thursday, February 13.
