Washoe County Deputies Investigate Reported Armed Robbery

Elko Police officers say they're investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Sunday morning.

Police tell Channel 2 News that authorities were called to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Winchester Drive around 6:45 a.m. and when they arrived, they found a man bleeding from the neck after suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say a preliminary investigation reveals that the alleged shooter, Frank Criswell met a woman a few days earlier and while at her apartment, the victim, Clinton Hopper opened the door to find the duo inside.

Police say Hopper hit Criswell with a skateboard, at which time a fight broke out, and Hopper allegedly began choking Criswell. Police say Criswell told them he was on the verge of losing consciousness when he shot Hopper. Police tell us Criswell immediately disarmed his weapon following the shooting and immediately administered CPR, but Hopper later died after being transported to a local hospital.

No one else was hurt – and police say no charges have yet been filed, but add that the case will go to the Elko County District Attorney's Office once the investigation is complete. They say right now the case is being investigated as a possible justifiable homicide.
