The Emerald Fire burning off Highway 89 near Cascade Lake and Emerald Bay is now fully contained. Additionally, Highway 89 has reopened under one-way traffic control until further notice.

Residents are advised to take extra caution while driving in these areas. The Forest Service says the highway will be subject to future closure as repair work and tree removal continues and debris is removed from the highway.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office says evacuations have been lifted.

CalFire reports the fire burned approximately 176 acres. Ed Miller with the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District says 75 mile per hour winds fueled the blaze, pushing the fire towards the lake.

There are reported power outages, and officials say Liberty Utilities is working to restore power to residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
