First Look into Blockchains, LLC Facility at TRIC

Blockchains, LLC is one of our most recent neighbors to move in to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.  Many may remember the Southern California-based company bought a large part of the last remaining land in the center, this January.

So what does the company do, exactly? They use a storage mechanism, called a 'blockchain,' for information, often associated with cryptocurrency, similar to bitcoin. 

The decentralized storage center makes information ranging anywhere from financial transactions to medical records, more secure.  An easier way to understand it is to compare the blockchain to your social security number.

Sarah Johns, Public Relations Director explains, "That social security number is 9 numerals. Imagine those 9 numerals on 9 different computers, so if one computer gets hacked, the hacker only has one of those 9 numerals; it doesn't have your entire social security number." 

The company purchased more than 60,000 acres of land at the industrial center. The shell of the building was already there, but the internal side was completely renovated for Blockchains move in. 

Everybody has to check in at the front desk before going any further. The building is highly secured. 

The company has a developer room, its own in-house legal counsel, public and private conference areas, and of course, meeting rooms. There's also space for Ethnews, an independent online news source for all things cyber and cryptocurrency.

Blockchains, LLC wants to branch out to more than just blockchains, though. Johns says, "We want to be seen as an incubator not just for blockchain technology but also, A.I., 3-D printing and nanotechnologies."

They plan to expand, eventually.  The 25,000 square foot facility is just the first piece of the blockchain puzzle. Remember, they do still have more than 60,000 acres to build on, after all. Johns adds, "We have the capacity and the space to change the world."

Right now, there are 71 employees working at the facility. They hope to grow their workforce to 1000 employees by 2021. If you would like to learn more about the company, visit their website here.
