June 4 was the first Food Truck Friday event since 2019. Crowds of people showed up at Idlewild Park to take part in the fun.

The event is once again open for business. It was not held last year, due to the pandemic shutdown. “This was a tough one. This is a family business for us and for the 85 other businesses that we work with,” said Food Truck Friday Organizer Steve Schroeder.

There was nothing but smiles on opening day this year. Ten new food trucks have been added to the roster. 35 to 40 trucks will rotate weeks, adding variety to the event.

“I'm looking forward to some of the barbeque options. My little ones are finally old enough to enjoy this,” said local resident Christa Roelle. “Obviously the chicken wings are the best. And there are a variety of them. I love being outside,” said local resident Mary Dini.

“I have no idea what I want to eat. I'm a rookie and I'm open to all the possibilities,” said local resident Bryan Bolin.

Long-time resident Bryan Bolin has never been to Food Truck Friday before. For an event that attracts thousands each year, that might be considered a rarity.

“I'm looking forward to being out in the community and trying some new food. Maybe trying something I haven't tried before,” said Bolin.

Bolin's girlfriend convinced him to come to the event. Each week Food Truck Friday will have music performances and other non-food vendors. “I’m looking forward to some live music. I'm just excited to be out of the house finally,” said Roelle.

The food is the big appeal. But there's something else to many of these people that tastes just as sweet, being over the pandemic isolation. "What I like about Food Truck Friday is all the food you can try and seeing things back to normal,” said Domenic Dini.

If you missed the first week, don't worry. Food Truck Friday will happen every week up to August 27. The event runs from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
