Fundraiser for Pedestrian in Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash in Reno

Reno Police officers have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of 4th and Washington on Tuesday night.

Police say 31-year-old Joseph Lopez of Dayton was hit by two different vehicles.

Police are still searching for one of the drivers. The associated vehicle is described as a smoky gray, older, two-door coupe, with hazy headlights.

Investigators say the first vehicle slowed but did not stop after hitting Lopez who police believe was in the crosswalk. While he was on the ground, the second vehicle struck him. That driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.

The first vehicle has possible front end damage. Anyone with information is urged to call the Reno Police Department's Traffic Division, at 773-657-4662 or secret witness at 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com or text the tip to 847411(TIP). A $1,500 reward is being offered.

Due to a series of vehicle vs. pedestrian crashes in the month of November, Sergeant Eric Friberg with the Reno Police Department is reminding drivers and pedestrians to be safe on the roads at night.

"Just because you're crossing legally doesn't mean that other people are paying attention and seeing you do that. Also be aware if you're wearing dark colors, drivers are having more difficulty seeing people, the darkness makes it difficult and you take a street that's poorly lit and it just becomes an issue," says Friberg.

The family has set up an account to help pay or expenses at http://www.youcaring.com/joeylopezmemorial.

There will also be a Spaghetti Feed fundraiser for Lopez on Thursday, December 1 from 6 pm to 9 pm.  It is $10 for all you can eat and will be held at the Dayton Community Center. Â
