Eight years ago Friday, Reno dentist Dr. Joe Eberle lost his only son.
Jason Eberle died suddenly at age 37. Also a dentist, Jason had a passion for helping children. So in his honor, his dad has taken on the cause.
For the last seven years Dr. Joe has honored his son's memory by raising money to help people in our community get dental care who otherwise couldn't afford it. He says there are thousands of children and veterans in line for some dental work, but funding can be limited to help them.
"These are the people that fall through the cracks," Eberle said. "Some of them don't qualify for Medicaid. They have no insurance. They have limited funds. So they can go through our program, and we can help them."
So, Dr. Joe is putting on a fundraising concert next week. The group Diamond Rio will be performing, and proceeds will go to the Jason Eberle Memorial Fund, for the dental care of kids and veterans. Eberle says he wanted to help veterans too, since both he and his son served in the armed forces.
Last year-- the event raised about $100,000. When asked what Jason would say if he could see it, Eberle said:
"Knowing Jason, he'd say, 'Dad, why are you doing so much? I'm just another guy, you know.' But he wasn't. He was dedicated and he loved to take care of kids."
The concert and fundraiser are happening on Friday, June 3 at the Silver Legacy. The show starts at 7 p.m. and there are plenty of tickets available. To buy tickets, click here.
