Saturday night the Nevada Senate revived AB 4.

That would double the amount of taxes Nevada's mining companies pay to about $100 million.

An amendment changed the bill so that the money would go to education instead of the state's General Fund.

Democrats thought they would pick up the final vote needed with that change but once again, it failed in a 13-8 vote because it failed to reach the two-thirds majority requirement to change taxes.

Lawmakers have been working on filling the state's $1.2 billion dollar shortfall during the Special Session which entered it's 11th day Saturday.

The budget bill lawmakers may vote on Saturday night combines AB 1 and AB3.

The first one deals with furloughs and pay cuts to state workers. The second one cuts funding to state agencies and programs throughout the state.

The Assembly passed it on a party line vote.

Republicans said they prioritized education and health care Democrats plan cut furlough days from 12 to six for state workers.

They also reinstated merit pay raises for them.
