NDOT Crews to Repave, Enhance Mt. Rose Highway

Nevada Department of Transportation crews are preparing to repave and enhance Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431) between the junction and summit.

The approximately $10 million project by contractor Granite Construction will repave and improve roadside drainage from the highway's base in south Reno to the summit. Rumble strips will be installed to enhance driving safety in residential areas at the base of the highway.

Safety enhancements include nearly 18,000 linear feet of new guardrail, as well as rock removal and mesh cover to reduce erosion-caused rock to fall on one roadside slope.

Construction at the base of the highway will take place largely during nighttime hours, with minimal day work. Work will take place both night and day from the tree line up to the summit. Single lane closures and delays are expected.

Construction is expected to be completed in October.
