Lane closures are scheduled to start July 10th on I-80 east of Fernley. The planned closure isn’t near the Earthstone Fire but will be delayed if needed.
Through early fall, drivers will see single lane closures and reduced work zone speed limits of 55 mph on both directions of I-80 from east of the Nevada Pacific Parkway to the Nightingale Hot Springs exit. Approximately ten miles of the interstate will be repaved, with two inches of the old interstate surface removed and repaved with three inches of new asphalt. Roadside drainage improvements will also be made.
Temporary rumble strips and radar-activated signs displaying travel speeds will provide extra awareness and visibility of reduced work zone speed limits, with the goal of providing enhanced safety in the work zone. Motorists are advised to drive at posted work zone speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions.
The approximately $9 million project by contractor Granite Construction will provide a smoother and safer interstate surface for the nearly 8,000 drivers which travel the area daily.
