Nevada Museum of Art Galleries Closed Ahead of New Tahoe Exhibit

The Nevada Museum of Art is inviting students in grades 7-12 to enter original artwork to the 2017 Scholastic Art Awards.

Students can submit to any of the 17 categories including ceramics, architecture & industrial design, digital art, drawing, photography, fashion, film & animation, and more. Submissions will be judged on originality, technical skill and the emergence of a unique, personal vision.  The deadline to submit  artwork is January 12, 2017.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards  has been recognizing creative teens for over 90 years.  Awards alumni include Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Richard Avedon and Reno’s own Michael Sarich. Last year, 320,000 works were submitted nationally with over 1,400 coming from northern Nevada. Regional Gold Key awards were given to 101 pieces and five portfolios. 

Since 1999, the Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, E. L. Wiegand Gallery has overseen the Northern Nevada regional visual arts component of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Nevada Museum of Art partners with the Holland Project to co-host this exhibition.  They say submissions came from all over northern Nevada including Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine counties.

To participate, students in grades 7-12 must must register on the Scholastic Art & Writing website, upload their work, and send their signed submission forms to the Nevada Museum of Art by January 12, 2017 at 8:59PM PST.
