A change in the Washoe County Commission District 2 race is reshaping the field heading into the 2026 primary after one of the Democratic candidates withdrew from the contest.

Susan Broili Kamesch has dropped out of the race for health reasons, saying it was a difficult decision, but her health takes priority. Even with her withdrawal, election officials said it is too late to remove her name from the ballot, meaning voters will still see her listed when they cast their ballots.

The District 2 seat, which covers most of south Reno and stretches into Washoe Valley, is currently held by Republican incumbent Mike Clark. He is facing a Republican challenger in the upcoming primary.

On the Democratic side, the race was expected to move forward with Broili Kamesch and Marie Rodriguez before the withdrawal. Rodriguez remains in the contest heading into the primary.

The winner of the Democratic primary will go on to face the Republican nominee in the general election.

According to the election schedule, primary election day is June 9. Early voting runs May 23 through June 5.

Because Broili Kamesch’s withdrawal comes after ballot deadlines, her name will still appear on ballots already in circulation and those used during early voting.
