Anthony Franko

On May 9th, 1983, 10-year-old Anthony Franko left his home in Lemmon Valley on his short walk to school.

He never arrived.

Forty years later, Tony Franko’s memory and the mystery of his disappearance that morning are still very much alive.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office want to bring new attention to this cold case.

Witnesses say they last saw Tony walking along Fremont Way in Lemmon Valley and that he “was leaning over and talking with an unknown subject in a rusted out, possibly a Ford Pinto or even a Camaro car."

On this 40th anniversary of Tony’s disappearance, the WCSO would like to re-kindle interest in the case.

According to NNMEC, the overwhelming majority of cold case investigations that are solved are done through new information provided from a witness or person with knowledge that initially did not want to be involved in the investigation.

Anyone with any information on this or any other unsolved cold case is asked to come forward and call the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division at 775-328-3320 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
