Several areas of the Douglas County School District office property are currently closed due to a bat infestation.Â
DCSD says it is working closely with Carson City Health and Human Services (Quad-County Public Health), and OSHA to address a confirmed bat infestation at the District office property located at 1638 Mono Avenue in Minden.
“Bats collected within Douglas County have tested positive for rabies and for the fungal spores that cause histoplasmosis, a respiratory infection. While the risk to the public remains low, exposure to either can pose serious health concerns,” DCSD says.
As a precaution, the DCSD has closed the following areas until further notice:
* Douglas County School District Office
* Public Dog Park on County Road
* Playground and Basketball Court adjacent to the District Office
To maintain operations, DCSD says the following departments have been relocated:
Gardnerville Elementary School
1290 Toler Ave, Gardnerville
Superintendent, Business Services, Human Resources, Accounts, Grants, AGPM, and Front Desk
Heritage Building
1290 Toler Ave, Gardnerville
Education Services, Inclusive Education, and Communications
