DECEMBER 30 UPDATE:
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says it is continuing to investigate a homicide near Fish Springs Road, close to the Nevada and California state line, and is asking for the public’s help.
According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in an online post, the case remains under active investigation by deputies. Investigators are encouraging anyone who may have seen or heard something related to the incident or who has information that could assist to come forward.

FEBRUARY 6TH UPDATE:
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who was fatally shot in the area of Fish Springs Road near the Nevada/California state line last month.
39-year-old John D. Allen of Doyle, California, fled the area of the initial incident, according to a release from the Medical Examiner's Office.
He arrived in Doyle, California, where he became unresponsive and was pronounced dead shortly after first responders arrived.
His manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that happened on Wednesday night near the California border.
Washoe County deputies responded to the area of Fish Springs Road, along with deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff's Office, on a report of a battery with a deadly weapon.
When law enforcement arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives have taken over the investigation and are following leads as they develop to ensure the public's safety, a release from the WCSO said.
