Anyone considering driving to California for the holiday may want to consider a change of plans tonight, as traffic is being held at Donner Summit.
According to CALTRANS, all eastbound traffic on I-80 was being held at Donner Summit, due to spinouts. It has since re-opened, but traffic is moving slowly.
If you're heading westbound; starting at Truckee, chains are currently required on all vehicles, except for 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels.
Trucks are being screened in both directions as well. Eastbound trucks are being screened at Applegate in Placer County, and westbound trucks at Mogul, five miles west of Reno. In both directions, drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to pass through.
Permit loads are prohibited.
