The Placer County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) has released information about a search and rescue mission that took place last Friday night.

According to officials, a GPS distress signal was forwarded to the PCSO dispatch on the night of May 16.

The GPS message was sent by two hikers in the area of Mumford Bar who had lost their trail and run out of food.

The hikers talked with dispatch, and based on the circumstances the hikers were advised to shelter in place overnight.

The following morning, a search and rescue team went out on foot and located the two hikers, who were in good condition.

PCSO enlisted the help of their Falcon 30 helicopter to hoist the hikers out of the area and back to the command post.
