A Southwest Airlines flight heading to Reno from Oakland had to make an emergency landing in Sacramento Wednesday night.
According to reporting from our CBS affiliate in Sacramento, the flight left Oakland at 7:17 p.m. en route to Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
The flight crew reported an illuminated flap warning light. The Boeing 737 descended to 4,600 feet before climbing to 15,900 feet and heading to Sacramento International Airport, where it landed at 8:27 p.m.
"Southwest Airlines Flight 4474 landed safely at Sacramento International Airport Wednesday evening after the Crew reported an illuminated flap warning light during the flight’s initial descent. The Crew followed safety procedures and landed without incident," said a statement from Southwest Airlines. "Southwest apologizes to our Customers who were inconvenienced. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees."
The FAA will investigate the incident.
The day before the incident on the Oakland to Reno flight a flight from San Jose to Burbank had to turn around after experiencing engine trouble just minutes after takeoff.
